Original Medicare (Part A & Part B) is provided by the federal government to all eligible Medicare beneficiaries across the United States.  Private insurance carriers then provide additional coverage,  such as Supplement, Advantage, and Prescription Drug Plans, to compliment Part A & Part B.  The plans offered by these private carriers can vary and are specific to states and counties.
