Medicare Plan Options Frequently Asked Questions

We hear these a lot. So, we figured we'd put the answers right here to save everyone some time.

How would the My Medicare Ohio experts help me compare Medicare plans in Ohio?

Our experts simplify the process by listening to your personal and medical needs and wants, then show you side-by-side comparisons of plan costs, services & prescriptions covered, and medical provider networks based on your ZIP code and the county of your primary residence.

The general high-level explanation is that Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) combine hospital coverage (Part A), outpatient medical coverage (Part B), and sometimes drug coverage (Part D) with a restricted provider network (local to your primary residence), lower monthly premiums (and sometimes even with a premium give-back), higher deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums, and sometimes additional dental, vision, and hearing coverage, while Medicare Supplement (Medigap or MedSupp) plans build on top of Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) to cover additional costs with a wider coverage network (anywhere Original Medicare is accepted across the United States) at a higher monthly cost with lower deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums but coverage that is stable year-over-year.

The experts at My Medicare Ohio can help determine which plans are best suited for your unique medical, budgetary, and lifestyle needs.

It is possible to switch Medicare plans after enrollment, but there are a few caveats involved.

The first caveat is that Medicare beneficiaries can only switch plans during an enrollment period.  There are specific enrollment periods that occur each year at specific times, such as the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15th to December 7th (for all Medicare beneficiaries) and the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) from January 1st to March 31st every year (only for Medicare Beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans).  There are also other enrollment periods that open specifically for an individual’s circumstances, such as an Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) around when a person turns 65 years old.

The second caveat for switching between plans is that the process to switch is not always the same for all plans.  For instance, switching from a Medicare Supplement plan to a Medicare Advantage plan may not have any conditions attached to it.  However, switching from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare Supplement plan in most cases requires medical underwriting and is not guaranteed.  On the other hand, there are specific cases when switching from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare Supplement plan does not require medical underwriting and is considered “guaranteed issue”.

The trusted experts at My Medicare Ohio can review your current plan enrollment, evaluate if there is an enrollment period available to you, determine the Medicare plans (if any) that are available to you to switch to, and help determine the plan that best fits your unique needs and wants…including if that plan is the one you currently have!

And the best part…all of the help and guidance to switch plans is completely free through My Medicare Ohio!
